So... Question time~
This as been on my mind for a while since I looked around on people's applications. What do the levels in the pokemon team section indicate? Since in the pokemon rules, it pretty much states that levels are nadda, zip, and basically don't exist.
I'm guessing it's so show how far down the road you are or something... but it's still kind of awkward in my mind and I'd like to get things cleared up.
Considering it's my first time at a pokemon rp forum, and that no one else seems to have this problem... I'm wondering if it's just me who doesn't really get it?

Good quesiton. Another thing I wonder is how you capture pokemons on this site too. I've seen some pokemon have mods that play the wild pokemon but this site doesn't seem to have that.

i can see that the level can represent how strong a pokemon is. for example, a pokemon that's level eighty three is insanely strong, and would require someone with a lot of experience. in essence; a 12 year old won't have a pokemon this strong; save for a thirty five year old: whom is most likely to do so. there's an exception: unless the trainer continuosly trains their pokemon right when they wake up in the morning and until 12:00 at the night, then yes.
as for the wild pokemon; the mods can play them (when the admin gets two more people for the moderator position).

LEVELS For the levels, I am going with somewhere along the line of whut shouhei said. Also, I guess it would also tell how battles would turn out. If two were battling, and let's say one was a rather rookie - which just level 10-15 ish pokemon then it will definately not win a pokemon that is over the level of 35 and up? It's like a big fat chance of winning right there.
WILD POKEMONS Mods, I guess. I never did any pokemon roleplay before so I just thought you just rp it out yourself catching a pokemon.Maybe the staff could watch the thread - it would be something like a training thread I guess - to see if you are actually battling the wild pokemon and trying hard to catch it.

I guess that's where I'm confused. Whether the number levels mean anything in battle or not. I assumed that this RP was emulating the show, where levels don't actually exist... or something similar in that context? /shot

Oh. well, I think Ashton will have to answer that. I always thought the site, in my point of view, was made off the game, especially crystal, gold and sliver.
And yea, I reread the pokemon-info again, it did say something about no levels. LOL, now I too am confused. xD maybe, the level is for the attacks or something.

Hey ~ to address the first question, the 'levels' in the profile are, indeed, to give a general indication of how strong the trainer is. They really don't matter all that much later, since there's a good chance that a low-leveled Pikachu (for example) could easily take out a high-leveled flying-type such as Pidgeotto because of it's type-advantage.
As for wild pokemon ~ you choose what can appear in the role play and whether you're going to catch it or not. However, please be realistic and serious - you won't find a Magmar in the Ilex forest. You have to be in the right place at the right time, and even still, you aren't likely to find any rarer pokemon unless you're really lucky. You also should rp the capture of any pokemon - if the staff thinks of it as too god-moddy or the pokemon is too rare (not a good chance of it appearing/whatever) we may ask you to change - or not capture it... something like that ~ Also, the level of the trainer (rookie vs. advanced trainer) will give you an idea of what kind of pokeballs they'll have on them at any given time, which will also factor in the capture of a pokemon.
I dislike a grand amount of rules, so most of this I'm leaving up to you guys, hoping you're not going to abuse what few rules there are.

-still kinda confused about levels-
So do the pokemon level up? Or once the rp begins, its thrown out altogether? Like, it would be assumed that the pokemon are of the same level and strength, and it is only through strategy that they'd win?
